This page hosts the download links for the HIARCS Chess Opening Books made available to subscribers for PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad. This page will be updated periodically as new books are released as part of the HIARCS Chess Opening Book subscription

To use the CTG format book you will need a GUI capable of reading this format, ie. HIARCS Chess Explorer Pro or Chessbase GUIs. Please save the book in your book folder. We strongly recommend that you "Optimize" the book in the Book options dialog so the tournament moves are chosen. The book shows a wide selection of playable moves even in tournament mode unlike most other books.
Customers who want to use the HCS format own engine book will need to save the book in the Documents/HIARCS Chess/Books folder. Once saved there, the HIARCS 14 engine series will automatically load the latest opening book. Please see the notes section for more details on your platform.
The HBG format provides HIARCS customers on the iPhone and iPad with detailed book statistics on those devices.
The best book to download is the most recent book.
Please note the HIARCS opening books are for your personal use only. Under no circumstances are the books to used for commercial purposes, hosted on another website or used in official tournaments without the prior express written permission of Applied Computer Concepts Ltd. All books are compressed zip archive files.
For CTG books please unzip into your Book folder (e.g. Documents/HIARCS Chess/Books). You can then open the CTG book from within HIARCS Chess Explorer Pro or Chessbase applications.
For HCS books please unzip and place in the Documents/HIARCS Chess/Books folder.
The password to unzip the books was emailed to you separately when you purchased the book subscription or received the update email.

iPhone/iPad HIARCS Chess

Book subscribers who are also iPhone or iPad customers can download the HIARCS tournament book from this page for their device
To update the opening book on your device please follow these steps:
From your desktop computer download the HBG format opening book below or from our subscriber pages
Unzip the downloaded book onto your desktop making a note of its location
Connect your iOS device to your computer
Open finder and select your device from the Locations section on the left hand side of the Finder window
With the device info show look to the right of General and click on Files (between Photos and Info)
Click on the HIARCS Chess app in the list that is displayed
You can now drag files from your desktop to the HIARCS Chess app on your device by dragging them to the Finder->Files->HIARCS Chess app view.
Alternatively, you can also drag files using the Finder window from the HIARCS Chess app on your device to your desktop, for example to backup your PGN databases.
Now in HIARCS Chess choose the Hiarcs->Info & Updates menu item and tap Book update and HIARCS will read in the latest book
You can see the book version number in the HIARCS: Info & Updates screen. HIARCS Chess will always use the latest book available in its Documents folder.
