HIARCS Opening Book Downloads

This page hosts the download links for the HIARCS Chess Opening Books made available to subscribers for PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad. This page will be updated periodically as new books are released as part of the HIARCS Chess Opening Book subscription

To use the CTG format book you will need a GUI capable of reading this format, ie. HIARCS Chess Explorer Pro or Chessbase GUIs. Please save the book in your book folder. We strongly recommend that you "Optimize" the book in the Book options dialog so the tournament moves are chosen. The book shows a wide selection of playable moves even in tournament mode unlike most other books.

Customers who want to use the HCS format own engine book will need to save the book in the Documents/HIARCS Chess/Books folder. Once saved there, the HIARCS 14 engine series will automatically load the latest opening book. Please see the notes section for more details on your platform.

The HBG format provides HIARCS customers on the iPhone and iPad with detailed book statistics on those devices.

The best book to download is the most recent book.

Please note the HIARCS opening books are for your personal use only. Under no circumstances are the books to used for commercial purposes, hosted on another website or used in official tournaments without the prior express written permission of Applied Computer Concepts Ltd. All HIARCS books are copyright © 1991-2024 Applied Computer Concepts Ltd. All rights reserved.

Latest HIARCS Tournament Books for PC and Mac

Notes for customers:

All books are compressed zip archive files.

For CTG books please unzip into your Book folder (e.g. Documents/HIARCS Chess/Books). You can then open the CTG book from within HIARCS Chess Explorer Pro or Chessbase applications.

For HCS books please unzip and place in the Documents/HIARCS Chess/Books folder.

The password to unzip the books was emailed to you separately when you purchased the book subscription or received the update email.

Human Reference Books

HIARCS Human Reference Book in Chessbase and Arena formats
An opening book reference of nearly 5 million moves including statistics from 143,085 top quality (>= 2550 Elo) human games up to May 2011. It includes top quality correspondence and over the board human games but excludes computer games and is intended as a reference for chess players. Not tuned or intended for computer play - please use HIARCS Tournament book (CTG or HCS) for that. See below.
